How many emails do you get a day? Think about it. Do you get more emails than phone calls? More emails than text messages? Look in your junk folder and in your promotions tab. I’m willing to bet, unless you’re a receptionist or do most of your work on the phone, that you probably get more emails than any other form of electronic communication.

And that’s because people read emails.

We check our emails to stay in touch with people we care about. We check emails to communicate at work. We check emails to find out that the shoes we’ve been meaning to buy are now half-off. Then we check our emails to find out when that new pair of shoes will arrive.

We read emails for both work and for play.

You’ve been designing/painting/consulting/writing code/underwater basket weaving for years. Maybe you’re self-taught or maybe you’ve taken some classes. Either way, you have skills. And, if you do say so yourself, you’ve gotten pretty damn good at what you’re doing.
